Annual Doodad Competition

Congratulations to all the students who created the amazing sculptures in the 8th Annual Doodad Repurposed Sculpture Competition. The sculptures continue to be on display at Tampa International Airport. Given the current situation, the best way to see the sculptures in the Exhibit is on the Doodad website. http://doodadoftampa.org/2020-competition/
The award winners are included on the award winners gallery. http://doodadoftampa.org/2020-award-winners/
This year, the competition included People's Choice Awards, sponsored by the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. The People's Choice Awards were voted on by visitors in the airport as well as those who saw the entries in the online galleries. The Awards were awarded to those with the highest number of votes, regardless of grade category or whether the entry had recieved an award from the judges.
Congratulations to Bella Pelaez, a 12th grader at Jefferson High School, for her People's Choice Award.
"Oh the places you'll go... and the impact you'll have! This sculpture contains colorful mountains, as seen in the book "Oh the Places You'll Go". Below the surface of this landscape, is an ocean entirely of plastic and materials that take a toll on the environment. A pair of shoes can be seen walking into the plastic ocean, as a symbol of our carbon footprint. This bright, colorful scene contrasts against the negative nature of the materials used. In creating this piece, I was alarmed at the garbage I was able to produce in such a short time. Moving forward in 2020 I hope we opt for alternative sustainable solutions throughout the globe & take the steps to change our influence from negative to positive." ... See MoreSee Less

Congratulations to Madeleine Berg, Chloe Boback, Addison Brown, Lauren Echeverry, Regan Hernandez, Emma Kaiser, Sophia Kelly, Reese MacDonald, Rory Martineau, Kamila Muraharisetti, Lin Riser, Bryn Valiente, Isabelle Williams, and Michael Xavier, 8th graders at The Academy of The Holy Names for their People's Choice Award.
