Description: The Atlantic Devil Ray : The Atlantic Devil Ray is one of many endangered mobula rays. They can be located in tropical and warm temperate waters like Tampa, as well as the Gulf of Mexico. These rays are marked endangered on the IUCN Red List. According to NOAA.org, As ocean temperatures rise, offshore circulation and rising of sea water patterns will change, impacting the spread of nutrients that support zooplankton populations. As a result, changes in zooplankton attainability could affect the behavior and wellbeing of ray populations.  In Hillsborough County, you can’t recycle textiles. They sit, becoming piles of trash, but they can be used if you have enough creativity. Every year, 25 billion pounds of textiles are thrown away in the US alone. My work shows how much you can really do with reused things like textiles and cardboard. I layered cardboard pieces to create an upscaled version of an Atlantic Devil Ray. My sculpture explores the grace and beauty of these amazing aquatic animals, by only using a few unwanted materials.
