Description: The Mangroves : We made our doodad sculpture to depict a mangrove ecosystem, a habitat that is found abundantly around Florida, especially the Everglades. In our process , we used a variety of fabrics and cardboard, and additionally plastic to create our project. The cardboards are painted with acrylic paints, and the bird is crafter of plastic water bottles and tissues. Mangrove swamps are surrounded by acres of saltwater, and thrive in shallow areas of coastlines and estuaries. A variety of bird species inhabit this land, namely the roseate spoonbill, as you can see in our sculpture. Creating this helped us realize and come to appreciate the beauty of these habitats, and how water plays a core component in many of the world's ecosystems. Without water, the beautiful sceneries we see today would not exist. It showed us that everyday trash that otherwise would not have been given a second thought can create complex and beautiful art.
