With two out of six critically endangered, one endangered, and three threatened, sea turtles need our assistance. Humans are a major cause of these startlingly serious statistics. It is time we all did our part to help make the world a better place for the sea turtles. Fishing gear, oil spills, garbage, and plastic bags, which the sea turtles mistake for jellyfish, are all major factors in the decrease in the sea turtle population. On average, a sea turtle can live anywhere between fifty and one hundred years, and though some live longer than this many do not reach this age due to humans' impact on their environment. Sea turtles are important to this Earth, and they deserve to be preserved. They have unique God-given talents such as Geomagnetic Imprinting, which allows them to learn their location using the Earth's magnetic field at birth. Another fascinating trait is their ability to navigate thousands of miles back to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs. Intelligent and amazing, sea turtles deserve our protection. Even little things can make a big difference, simply turning off lights that you are not using can reduce the light pollution that can confuse a sea turtle's sense of direction. Also recycling lessens the amount of garbage floating aimlessly in the ocean. Donations to a research foundation can help raise awareness about the sea turtles' plight. There are numerous ways for you to save the sea turtles. What will you do to preserve these precious creatures?
