The inspiration for the 2nd Annual Repurposed DooDad contest came from an anonymous donation of thousands of empty, wooden cigar boxes in a variety of sizes and colors, leftover from a donor who shipped cigars to service members stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

478 students, ranging from elementary to high school seniors, from 50 schools, displayed their creativity and originality as they repurposed up to 10 cigar boxes per sculpture. Awards were given to the artwork that best illustrated Tampa history, best repurposed the cigar boxes and displayed the greatest humor, as well as a best sculpture in each age group.

After an initial display at the Hyde Park Horizon Bay facility, sculptures were exhibited at the Tampa Bay History Center and the Glazer Children’s Museum, with a close at the Firefighters’ Museum.
