Description: Our native animal to Florida is the flamingo. In our research, we learned that flamingos were native to Florida in the late 1800's. While most flamingos in Florida are captive, many have been seen in the Florida Everglades, which is represented in our piece. We used newspaper, metal wire, and plastic bottles to create the body and neck. We used red, white, and pink ribbons that were cut and glued individually to make the feathers. The legs were made by using wooden sticks. Green ribbons were cut and glued to make grass, and the water was created by cutting pieces of plastic water bottles which were then painted different shades of blue and glued to the base of the sculpture. Straws were used to create a webbed look of the flamingo's foot. Paint was used to cover the legs and the neck, in addition to the facial features. We named our piece "Phoebe 2.0" as a reference to the larger- than- life flamingo statue located at the airport!
