Description: Vanishing Ice: My sculpture represents the research I conducted about the theme ‘Water’, as a major topic I discovered was climate change and its effects on the marine environment, more specifically about icebergs. Many sources were about how global warming had a harsh effect on ice caps, often melting them completely. This process in many cases left different ocean life stranded and without a home. I constructed my artwork to depict an Iceberg as the centerpiece and a handful of smaller icebergs with polar bear on it showing how global warming can negatively affect the aquatic life and how it can slowly take down a massive iceberg and leave almost nothing behind. The piece resembles a real-life effect of climate change on the aquatic environment.
My thinking has also greatly changed about the connection between creating with unconventional art materials and the environment whilst constructing my piece. It has shown me that the use of unconventional materials can not only directly help the environment through the use of recycled materials but also highlight high sustainability and help spread environmental concern.
