Description: ROBOCYCLE: Our project is connected to the theme Florida flying into the Future because everyone in society thinks that robots are going play huge part in the future. This robot is called the Harbor helper. It is able to pick up trash from the ocean, recycle trash, and interact with the people on the beach. We created Harbor helper to pick up the trash in the waters of Florida. Trash pollution in Florida poses a significant threat to marine life and the ecosystem. About 25% of Florida’s ocean waters are polluted as well as 80% of the Lakes. We need to stop this pollution. Creating the Harbor Helper changed the way we think about the connection between unconventional art materials and the environment. Before this project, we viewed art materials as separate from environmental issues, but designing a robot focused on cleaning Florida’s waters helped us realize that creative materials and ideas can be used to address real-world problems. Art is not just for visual impact, but can also raise awareness and inspire solutions to environmental challenges like trash pollution in Florida’s oceans and lakes.
