TEACHERS + PARENTS: Thank you for being a part of the DooDad Competition!

We are endlessly grateful for the passion, energy, and creativity you bring to the DooDad Sculpture Competition each year. Your dedication to guiding students through this journey:  encouraging their ideas, managing materials, and coordinating entries makes this program possible. We know how much time and effort it takes, and we want you to know: we see you, we appreciate you, and we couldn’t do this without you!

NEW TO DOODADS? read about our Competition below!

The Annual Repurposed DooDad Sculpture Competition is a beloved Tampa Bay tradition that has been inspiring creativity for over a decade. Each year, students from public, private, and homeschool groups are challenged to transform everyday repurposed materials into imaginative works of art while learning about recycling, conservation, and the importance of environmental responsibility. Their sculptures are paired with student-made artist statement videos, where young artists explain their creative choices, the environmental lessons behind their work, and the impact they hope their art will have on others.

These works are celebrated both online and in person, with award-winning pieces exhibited at the Florida State Fair and at partner events throughout the community. Thanks to the generous support of local sponsors, more than $48,500 in awards have been given to student artists over the years, recognizing not only their creativity, but also their commitment to environmental awareness and innovation.

Obsolete Objects: Artists that INSPIRE!

Zac Miskry makes a metal spider!

Robin Davis and her found object robots!

Robin Davis was born a creator and builder. While her artistic life may have started in a way familiar to most crayon-wielding preschoolers, her art has evolved to a place where she now claims it as her passion. Her professional career started with children’s illustration and art licensing, but her current endeavours now have her immersed in various forms of upcycled art, 3D sculptures and assemblage art, including her incredible found object robots built using reclaimed industrial items and rusty metal found objects. Trash Talkin' with Leo Sewell

Leo Sewell creates naturalistic sculptures out of a huge variety of found objects. His work and his personality are infused with a gentle humor and his craftsmanship and work ethic are unrivaled. Leo Sewell is a true bridge between the avant garde Dadaist traditions of Marcel Duchamp and the self taught “outsider” visionary artists of America’s heartland.  Click below to watch  a video of his amazing work!
