Description: To start this project I went through a couple of ideas. I kept going back and forth between different ideas to represent water. A piece with a water droplet, a focus on climate change or pollution, or some thing else. After reviewing guidelines I decided to focus on animals native to only flordia. The first animal that came to mind that was water related was a manatee, both due to them being native and because they are a large symbol in flordia. And whenever I think of manatees, I always think about the danger that boats pose to them, so I had to include the different types of scarring they have. Lots of my research was about the shape and color of both manatee's boat scars and damaged tails. I also made sure that the scarring would stand out by giving my manatee darker coloring. Later in my process I learned that baby manatees often are darker colors that match my sculptures coloring.
